New Delhi | May 26: Kolkata Knight Riders once again clichéd the title of champions in the finals of Indian Premiere League (IPL) 2024 by defeating Sunrisers Hyderabad by eight wickets and in just 11th over of the match on Sunday.
This matched was played in the Chepauk Stadium in Chennai as the finals of the IPL 2024.
Venkatesh Iyer was on strike and Kolkata Knight Riders was just one run away to lift the trophy significantly after a gap of decade. Additionally, the striker scored the joint-fastest fifty in an IPL final, against Sunrisers Hyderabad. The left-hander paddle-swept for a single and triggered wild celebrations in the KKR camp.
But one of the notable things in the match and throughout the tournament was the return of the OG Gautam Gambhir in his home-team (KKR). Yes, it can just be mere coincidence but somehow Gambhir is lucky for this team, as the last time when KKR lifted the trophy was under the captaincy of GG in 2014 and now after a decade, in 2024, the unbeatable KKR team lifted the IPL trophy under the mentorship of Gautam Gambhir only.
One-sided Match
This match in the second inning was declared one-sided because of the bowling masterclass and stellar shown by the players of the KKR.
KKR’s bowlers, led by stellar spells from Andre Russell (3-19), Mitchell Starc (2-14) & Harshit Rana (2-24), bowled out the whole SRH team on just 113, the lowest total in an IPL final.
In reply, the batters, led by Venkatesh Iyer’s 52 not out off 26 balls, chased down the total in just 10.3 overs to make it the second time the side won an IPL title in Chennai.
