Amritsar | December 4: Sukhbir Singh Badal, Former President of Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) has been attacked by a person inside the premises of the Golden Temple in Amritsar.
He was sitting near to the entry gate when a miscreant came closer and opened fire at him. However, he survived the attack and is safe.
The miscreant shooter has been detained by the other leaders of Akali Dal and people surrounding near Badal.
Attack on Badal is not just an attack. From the past few day, the nation and Punjab has been witnessing a surge in favour of Khalistan territorial narrative. This attack may hint a rise in new militancy in the state.
Sukhbir Singh Badal was declared a ‘tankhaiya’ (guilty of religious misconduct) in August by Akal Takht, which announced religious punishment for him after which he arrived at the temple to serve his penance.
Earlier on Tuesday, he served his first day of penance. He was seen adorning a plaque around his neck while sitting in a wheelchair because of a fractured leg.
In the punishment pronounced by the Akal Takht, Sukhbir Singh Badal has to clean bathrooms, utensils, shoes, etc. at the Golden Temple.
Sukhbir Badal has admitted the charges against him. The Akal Takht has also pronounced religious punishment for some others leader of SAD, including Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa, Sucha Singh Langah, Hira Singh Gabaria and Balwinder Singh Bhundar.
