NEET-UG Scam Row: Arrested student in Bihar confesses involvement in the paper leak

Patna | June 20: Over the alleged NEET-UG (National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test-Undergraduate 2024) results scam and paper leak matter, a new twist has engraved in the matter, as, an arrested student from Samastipur has confessed that he had received the same question paper before the commencement of the exams on May 5.

The arrested student has been identified as Anurag Yadav (22), hailing from Samastipur has made his confession through a letter.

In a confession letter to the police, he said that that his uncle had called him back from Kota (Rajasthan) to Samastipur in Bihar and said that he has made all the arrangements for exam.

His uncle has been identified as Sikandar Prasad Yadavendu, an engineer deployed at Bihar’s Danapur Town Council (Danapur Nagar Parishad).

In his confession letter, the arrested student Yadav said he was handed over with the4 NEET question paper and was asked to memorise the answers of the question overnight. He further revealed that on the day of examination, the actual question matched with what he was provided with.

“I returned from Kota and was taken to Amit Anand and Nitish Kumar by my uncle on the night of May 4, 2024, where I was given the NEET exam question paper and answer sheet, which I was made to study and memorize overnight. My examination centre was DY Patil school,” he said.

He further accepted his involvement in the paper leak case and said, “The question paper that I received at my examination centre was the same that I was made to study and memorize on the night of May 4. I accept my involvement in the crime.”

The NEET-UG 2024 exam was held on May 5 and the results were declared on the same day as Lok Sabha elections, i.e., on June 4, ahead of its scheduled announcement date of June 14.

Various protests were held and protestors alleged about irregularities and paper leaks in the exam as 67 students had topped the exam with a perfect score of 720.

The NEET-UG examination, conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA), is the gateway for admission to medical courses such as MBBS, BDS, AYUSH and other related courses in government and private institutions across the country.

Students filed petitions in courts seeking a re-test.

Meanwhile , on June 13, the NTA informed the Supreme Court that the scorecards of 1563 candidates who were awarded “grace marks” in the NEET-UG 2024 exam would be cancelled and these candidates would have an option to reappear for the exam on June 23, the results of which will be declared before June 30.
