Goddess Laxmi is considered as the deity of wealth, prosperity and good fortune. During Diwali night, she is worshipped alongside other deities like Lord Ganesha, Lord Kubera, and Goddess Saraswati. Each deity is associated with different aspects of life and is worshipped to seek their combined blessings. While people persistently strive to worship in the right manner, they often overlook the basic disciplines that can enhance the effectiveness of their rituals. This article explains various steps suggested by astrologers to follow when worshipping to successfully appease Goddess Laxmi.

  1. Clear the Clutter – Diwali preparations typically commence with a thorough cleaning of every possible corner of the house. The level of cleanliness during Diwali is unmatched; it is a once-a-year experience. It is believed that Goddess Lakshmi prefers to visit homes that are free of clutter. That is why de-cluttering holds utmost importance as it invites the positive energy of Goddess Lakshmi.
  1. Decoration –Diwali is a celebration of joy, and it is evident from the vibrant decorations throughout the country. From lights, rangolis, and diyas, to other elements, the decorations hold symbolic significance. Diyas, or earthen lamps, symbolize the victory of light over darkness. Rangolis are colourful patterns that welcome Goddess Lakshmi into the home.
  1. Perform Laxmi Puja at Night – Diwali always falls on the day of the new moon (Amavasya), which is considered an auspicious time for worshipping Goddess Laxmi. Ensure following proper ritual and availability of needed ‘puja-samagri’ to worship the deity.
  1. Recite Laxmi Mantra – While worshipping, it is important to recite the dedicated mantra to the deity, to appease her. Goddess Laxmi’s mantra is – Om Hreem Shreem Lakshmibhayo Namah. Chant it 11 times to seek her blessings. 
  1. Use Gomti Chakra – Take 11 Gomti Chakras and apply turmeric powder to them. Wrap these chakras in yellow cloth and place them near her image or idol and perform worship accordingly.
  1. Use Auspicious Elements – There are various auspicious elements used in Hindu tradition. Make use of swastika and om symbol, banana leaf, mango tree wood, etc to adorn the entrance.
  1. Donate to the Needy – Try donating the items of basic needs, food and money to the poor and needy. Goddess Lakshmi is pleased by acts of charity and generosity and rewards those who share their wealth with others.
