Delhi Court Sends AAP MLA Naresh Balyan To Judicial Custody In Extortion Case
New Delhi | December 14: Delhi court on Friday sent AAP MLA from Uttam Nagar, Naresh Balyan, to judicial custody in connection with a case involving alleged organized crimes. The court denied the police’s request for an extension of his custody.
Special Judge Kaveri Baweja issued the order after Balyan was presented before the court at the conclusion of his seven-day police custody granted earlier. The judge rejected the Delhi Police’s application seeking an additional 10-day custody under the stringent Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA).
Special public prosecutor Akhand Pratap Singh, representing Delhi police, sought further police custody of Naresh Balyan, saying he was required to be quizzed to unearth the larger conspiracy in the case.
Naresh Balyan was produced before the court on expiry of his seven-day police custody granted in the case earlier.
The lawmaker was arrested on December 4 in connection with the alleged organized crime case, while he had previously been granted bail by a court in a separate purported extortion case.
