New Delhi | January 7: Raining over the awaited drought, the Election Commission of India has officially announced the dates of the polls in the national capital Delhi on Tuesday.
As per the ECI, the legislative assembly elections in Delhi will be held in a single-phase on February 5 (Wednesday) and the counting of votes will take place of February 8 (Saturday).
As per the notification from the Election Commission of India, the Date of Issue of Gazette Notification is January 10 (Friday) while the last day of making nominations are January 17 (Friday).
The Election Commission will make scrutiny of nominations on January 18 (Saturday). The candidates from all the 70 legislative seats can withdraw their nominations till January 20 (Monday), according to the notification of ECI.
The poll body is abided to complete the election procedure before February 10, 2025 (Monday).

The term of all sitting MLAs of 70 seats is expected to be fulfilled in between February 23-25, 2025.
As per the Election Commission, the total number of registered voters in the national capital territory of Delhi is 1,55,24,858 out of which 2,08,302 voters belongs to the age group of 18-19 years.
The ECI in its press note, wrote, “Election Commission of India (hereinafter ECI) is committed to conduct free, fair, participative, accessible, inclusive and safe election to the Legislative Assembly of NCT of Delhi in exercise of the authority and powers conferred upon under Article 324 read with Article 172 (1) of the Constitution of India and Section 15 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951.”
Out of the 70 assembly constituencies, 12 seats are reserved for the Scheduled Castes (SC), including, Bawana (SC), Sultan Pur Majra (SC), Mangol Puri (SC), Karol Bagh (SC), Patel Nagar (SC), Madipur (SC), Deoli (SC), Ambedkar Nagar (SC), Trilokpuri (SC), Kondli (SC), Seemapuri (SC) and Gokalpur (SC).
The 70 assembly constituencies are – Narela, Burari, Timarpur, Adarsh Nagar, Badli, Rithala, Bawana (SC), Mundka, Kirari, Sultan Pur Majra (SC), Nangloi Jat, Mangol Puri (SC), Rohini, Shalimar Bagh, Shakur Basti, Tri Nagar, Wazirpur, Model Town, Sadar Bazar, Chandni Chowk, Matia Mahal, Ballimaran, Karol Bagh (SC), Patel Nagar (SC), Moti Nagar, Madipur (SC), Rajouri Garden, Hari Nagar, Tilak Nagar and Janakpuri.
Vikaspuri, Uttam Nagar, Dwarka, Matiala, Najafgarh, Bijwasan, Palam, Delhi Cantt, Rajinder Nagar, New Delhi, Jangpura, Kasturba Nagar, Malviya Nagar, R.K. Puram, Mehrauli, Chhatarpur, Deoli (SC), Ambedkar Nagar (SC), Sangam Vihar and Greater Kailash.
Kalkaji, Tughlakabad, Badarpur, Okhla, Trilokpuri (SC), Kondli (SC), Patparganj, Laxmi Nagar, Vishwas Nagar, Krishna Nagar, Gandhi Nagar, Shahdara, Seemapuri (SC), Rohtas Nagar, Seelam Pur, Ghonda, Babarpur, Gokalpur (SC), Mustafabad and Karawal Nagar.

Earlier in the week, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) released its first list of candidates for 29 seats out of the 70 constituencies in which Parvesh Verma, former MP and son of former Delhi CM Sahib Singh Verma has been fielded against Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal from the New Delhi Assembly Constituency.

The Congress has nominated Sandeep Dixit, son of former Delhi CM Sheila Dixit, from the same seat.

Notably, the BJP has fielded former AAP leader Kailash Gehlot from Bijwasan seat and former MP Ramesh Bidhuri to contest against Delhi CM Atishi in Kalkaji, with Congress fielding former MLA Alka Lamba.
