New Delhi | 29 December: In a heartwarming meeting that showcased India’s pride, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with D Gukesh, the youngest chess prodigy to claim the title of World Chess Champion. In social media “X” PM Modi wrote, “Had an excellent interaction with chess champion and India’s pride, @DGukesh! I have been closely interacting with him for a few years now, and what strikes me most about him is his determination and dedication. His confidence is truly inspiring. In fact, I recall seeing a video of his few years ago where he had said he would become the youngest world champion— a prediction that has now clearly come true thanks to his own efforts.“

The Prime Minister congratulated Gukesh for his extraordinary accomplishment, calling him an inspiration to millions of young Indians. Modi expressed admiration for Gukesh’s strategic brilliance, discipline, and dedication to the ancient game of chess, which has its origins in India.

The world bowed 18-year-old Gukesh D after he defeated reigning champion Ding Liren of China, making history as the youngest-ever World Chess Champion.

Following this historic victory, Gukesh became the 18th Grandmaster and only the second Indian, after the legendary Viswanathan Anand, to claim the World Chess Championship title.

The 18-year-old Gukesh defeated China’s Liren in a title match. After winning the match, Gukesh couldn’t control his tears as he realized that he had bagged the Championship.
