However, recently, AAP has accused the BJP-led Central Government of providing accommodations and facilities to the illegal Rohingya migrants whereas the latter has accused the AAP-led Delhi government for the same, citing that they had provided basic amenities to the illegal Rohingyas.

This controversy erupted when Delhi Chief Minister Atishi wrote a letter to the Union Home Minister Amit Shah, stating that the Union Government has “settled a large number” of “illegal migrant Rohingya” refugees in different parts of Delhi, without giving prior information to the Delhi government.

Atishi said that while referring to two older X (twitter) posts of Union Minister Hardeep Puri. She requested that no further rehabilitation should be given to “Rohingyas” without asking the Delhi government.

The letter dated December 15 from Atishi, reads, “The BJP led central govt have settled a large number of illegal migrant Rohingya refugees in different parts of Delhi by keeping the people and the government of Delhi in dark. This seems to be going on for last several years. On 17 August, 2022, Union Urban Development Minister Shri Hardeep Puri published two tweets -“India has always welcomed those who have sought refuge in the country. In a landmark decision all #Rohingya #Refugees will be shifted to EWS flats in Bakkarwala area of Delhi. They will be provided basic amenities, UNHCR IDs & round-the-clock @DelhiPolice protection. @PMOIndia……”

However, Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri immediately reacted to her allegations and accused the AAP for still engaging in politics of “diversion, false narratives and half-truths.”

On social media X (formerly Twitter), Union Minister Puri wrote, “Aam Aadmi Party continues with its politics of diversion, false narratives and half-truths. Facts and actual position on illegal Rohingya migrants were immediately clarified through a tweet on the same day which they selectively chose to ignore, and continue to do so.”

Puri iterated that “NO Rohingya migrant” has been given a government house in Delhi. Instead of it, he accused AAP for engaging in a rhetoric and said that they are actually the ones who has provided rehabilitation, funds and basic amenities to the illegal Rohingyas in Delhi.

“No Rohingya migrant has been given a govt house in Delhi. Infact, contrary to the drummed up AAP rhetoric they are actually the ones who play host to the illegal Rohingyas in Delhi, have settled them in large numbers, give them electricity and water, and even pay them ₹10,000,” Puri wrote.

“It will also help if they state their position on the scams which landed them in jail, Sheesh Mahal, their refusal to pay the state share in RRTS and Phase-4 of Delhi Metro in order to stall the projects and the delay caused to the PM-UDAY Scheme till we went ahead on our own with it to offer ownership rights to people living in hitherto unauthorised colonies of Delhi,” the tweet added.
