In India, the alarming rise in crimes against women has reached critical levels, with over 32,000 reported rape cases in 2022 alone, averaging nearly 88 cases per day. These figures, combined with countless other forms of violence and threats, highlight a deeply entrenched crisis that demands urgent attention and action. The growing statistics serve as a stark reminder of the pervasive danger women face daily, as they navigate a society where their safety is far from guaranteed.
Prachi, a first-year BDS student at PGI Rohtak, endured a deeply disturbing and traumatic experience on the 16th and 17th of August. Over the past seven months, she has been relentlessly stalked by Dr. Manindar Kaushik, a senior PG student in the Anatomy department. What began as a seemingly harmless interaction quickly took a darker turn as Dr. Kaushik persistently pressured Prachi to enter into a relationship. When she refused, his behavior became increasingly violent.
For the past two months, Prachi has been living in constant fear, subjected to relentless harassment and blackmail by Dr. Kaushik. He threatened her academic future, vowing to ensure she would fail Anatomy, and even went so far as to withhold her admit card, using it as leverage to coerce her into meeting him. This ordeal has left Prachi traumatized, as she struggled to cope with the intense pressure and fear instilled by her senior.
On the night of the 16th of August, he called me outside the college library, promising he would stop troubling me and hand over my admit card. However, when I arrived, he forced me into his car, violently attacked me, and drove me to an unknown location.
For nearly 12 hours, from 11 PM on the 16th until 1 PM on the 17th, he subjected me to extreme physical and emotional abuse. He kicked, punched, and tortured me with a knife, leaving marks all over my body, including my face. I was finally released back on campus, where I immediately called my parents and filed a complaint.
Despite this, no serious action has been taken against him. I’m left questioning how someone like him could be allowed into a medical college in the first place. I want justice for what l’ve endured, and I am determined to make sure no one else has to suffer in the same way.
